If you need your citizenship certificate number, but you do not need a copy of the certificate, you can call the citizenship contact centre on 0800 22 51 51. It is free to find out your certificate number.
Use these forms if you were born in New Zealand.
Expand allIf you were born in 2005 or earlier in New Zealand or the Cook Islands, your birth certificate does not show your citizenship. You can use the Confirmation of Birth certificate to prove you are a New Zealand citizen.

If you were born in 2006 or later in New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Niue or Tokelau, you can use your birth certificate or New Zealand passport to prove you are a citizen.
If you were born outside New Zealand, you can use your New Zealand citizenship certificate to prove you are a citizen by grant or by descent.
